Holiday Gift Ideas From The Experts
Sometimes we all run out of gift ideas. What do you give the rich relative who needs nothing? What do you give your child's teacher (believe me, she's got enough apple-themed jewelry)? And there's always someone for whom you need a gift at the last minute, right? The Experts at Creating Great Homes have gotten together for a Holiday Gift Idea Exchange and you are invited! Below you'll find some creative and unique ideas, one for just about everyone on your list. Some are ultra-economical, some are not. Some are homemade or hand made, some you can find at a local store
and some you can only find online. We hope you enjoy reading -- and using -- our ideas this holiday season! From Denise Beck Great Gift for Grandparents or Aunts and Uncles Find a really nice long sleeved t-shirt. (I like the ones at WalMart that have one hanging on display, with the stock rolled up in bins below.) Paint each of your children's hands and place them on the t-shirt, with fingers pointing out, to form the shape of a wreath. Use their thumbs to put berries on the wreath. Under the wreath you could write, "Christmas 2009". Denise has some irresistible ideas at www.becksgreyghosts.org From Rena Bullard
This year give the gift that will keep giving all year long. Give someone a paid subscription to a magazine that focuses on their favorite sport, hobby, or whatever. What a great way for the one you care about to be reminded about how much you care for them on a regular basis all year long. The subscription gift will not only tell them you've been paying attention to what they like, but it will also provide hours of pleasure for them each time they receive it. From Tess Worrell A Blessing From the Kitchen I love giving a jar of homemade brownie mix. Just attach a recipe card listing moist ingredients and how long to bake and tie a ribbon around the top.
You give the gift of brownie aroma wafting through the house, of the work of your hands blessing someone else, and of a chocolate fix just when the recipient might need it most! Christmas blessings from Tess at YourFamilyMattersToUs.com
From Marilyn Woodard Remember Soap-on-a-Rope? This idea is like that, but more personal, eco-friendly and, possibly, less expensive.
It's Soap-in-a-Bag. If you are crafty, you can knit or crochet a cotton bag with a loop handle for hanging in the shower. If you are not crafty, you could find or make inexpensive bags. Since I am not crafty, I am thinking of getting some vintage crocheted doilies (about 25¢ at Goodwill) and sewing -- or even fabric-gluing -- them together. Add a ribbon for hanging and a nice bar of soap (I've seen Yardley perfumed soaps at my local Dollar Store) and you have a sweet smelling gift that will last long after the twinkle lights have come down. Christmas Blessings on you! from Marilyn
