Taking Care of You

Are you the main caregiver in your home?
Do you spend all or most of your time serving others?
You could probably use some care, yourself.

Most of the time, no one remembers that. And most of the time, that's okay.
But even the most dedicated, loving, servant-hearted person needs a little tender loving care.

Stay at home parents are at high risk for depression, particularly if they have small children with very high needs. Think about it:
  • The recipients of their labor are completely unappreciative

  • They are on call 24 hours a day

  • They are overworked and underpaid

  • They are tired

Miz Woody's Diet Tips for the New Year
Marilyn Woodard
Miz Woody's Diet Tips for the New Year First, let me say that I have fought my weight my whole life. I was a chubby kid, a fat adolescent, an overweight teenager. As an adult, I have maintained my weight within a ten pound range (except, of course, for pregnancies and one other extremely stressful time period.) As I write, I am four pounds overweight, which is pretty darn good for someone in their 50's, if I do say so myself. Not that I don't want to weigh 15 pounds less - I am after all an American female! -- but, I don't think it's realistic. "Realistic" is an important word, and I'll get back to it later. . . . keep reading

A Little Help From My Friends Say you're thinking about getting a tattoo and you're looking for some advice. This is your first tattoo and you don't want to mess it up. Where do you go for some advice? You could ask Great Uncle Harry. After all, he's very free with advice and he's got a tattoo. Of course, it's an anchor that he got in 1948 in Singapore. . . . keep reading
5 Smart Snacks for Losing Weight
Jill Hudson
5 Smart Snacks for Losing Weight When you think of snacks you do not think of losing weight. Actually you think of the opposite. Snacking is usually associated with gaining weight or falling off of a diet. Generally snacking refers to eating sugary junk and processed foods in between meals and that kind of activity can absolutely ruin a diet. The surprising truth is that there are a lot of snacks that are actually very healthy and having some snacks in moderation can actually help you to lose weight. Eating some snacks throughout the day can help to keep your metabolism high and keep you burning calories in an efficient manner and in turn burn off that fat. . . . keep reading

Top Ten Tips for Better Sleep (Plus Two)

Top Ten Tips for Better Sleep
(Plus Two) How much sleep do you need? Is eight hours of shut-eye sufficient? Or do you fall apart if you don't get ten solid hours of deep sleep? I have a friend who gets by on three to five hours a night. Did I say, "gets by?" I misspoke. She is a fully charged Energizer bunny with four hours of sleep. It's so unfair. The bottom line, however, is that we all need our sleep. Even the Energizer Bunny lady has to get the right amount or she's doing the zombie walk. . . . keep reading
