Vickie Sloderbeck
My name is Vickie Sloderbeck and I've been married to my high-school sweetheart and best friend Jim since 1974. My heart's desire since third grade was to grow up to be a stay-at-home mom, which is what I have been able to do since our first child was born in 1977. Our family has been blessed with two daughters and three sons. Now, the next generation of Sloderbecks already includes four active grandsons and one beautiful granddaughter. For the last twenty years I have been homeschooling my children. Teaching them at home has been a privilege, some hard work and a blessing that has enabled me to draw closer to each of them, as well as allowin them to be in close relationship with one another and with their father. Sharing our time, talents, frustrations and love with each other has blessed our lives beyond measure. In the fall of 2006, my husband made a huge transition in his career as an emergency room physician and medical director to becoming the Executive Pastor of our church. It has been exciting as we reflect upon how God had prepared Jim for this challenging position--a job that allows him to use his gifts of administration and leadership. While I always knew I would be a doctor's wife, even before we married, I never dreamed God would ask me to be a minister's wife! This new direction in our lives is proving to be exciting, challenging, rewarding, and busy. One of the biggest passions I've discovered since I married has been reading about marriage and sharing what I've learned with friends. Then, several years ago, God took me down a path of writing and teaching a class about His design for sex and intimacy in marriage--something I never dreamed I would do, or would enjoy. Since that time, He has inspired me to write five different books about sex and intimacy in marriage. Two of them are written for teaching wives in a classroom setting (An Invitation to Intimacy); two more are for couples learning in a group setting about marriage as described in The Song of Solomon (Passionate Partnership); and the last one is written for an individual woman who can't participate in a group study (A Wife's Invitation to Intimacy). While I've never been comfortable speaking in front of groups of people, God now has me teaching classes at church, conducting marriage retreats with my husband, speaking at a men's leadership group every year, and now being involved with this site--all while continuing to homeschool the last two children. Now that I've become known as "the sex lady" at church, I can confidently say God really does have a sense of humor!
